Aug. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Tropical Storm Prapiroon, the third severe storm to lash southern China in as many weeks, left at least 31 people dead and 14 missing in Guangdong province, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. Prapiroon, which weakened from a typhoon, made landfall in Guangdong late on Aug. 3, moving northwest into Guangxi province yesterday. The storm has affected 6.06 million people in the two provinces as well Hainan, with 534,000 people evacuated, Xinhua said, citing figures from the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Heavy rains and strong winds flattened 8,100 houses and damaged a further 46,000, caused losses totaling at least 2.54 billion yuan ($318 million), Xinhua said.
