Mayon Update : Lava Trail Reaches 6 Km PDZ

Mayon's lava trail breached the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) by 90 meters on Saturday as the toe of the lava front slowly crept along the Mabinit and Bonga gullies.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned residents living within the eight-kilometer radius in the southeast sector of the Mayon volcano, particularly the towns of Daraga, Sto. Domingo and this city, to be on alert for possible spread of fires spawned by the lava flow.
Phivolcs resident volcanologist Ed Laguerta stressed that although the lava flow is moving slowly, it has incinerated vegetated areas and has burned trees and shrubs as it passes by.
Laguerta said potential spread of fires are expected in the upper areas of barangays...
