Lava Flow From Mayon Volcano To Reach Danger Zone In Two Days

Albay Province, Philippines (AHN) - Volcanologists in the Philippines warned Sunday that lava flow from Mayon Volcano in Legazpi City, Albay province, will reach the six-kilometer permanent danger zone in two to three days. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said field observations at the Mabinit channel also showed that threat of fire became high as lava encroached on the southeast PDZ boundary, which is a wooded area. Strong wind blowing from the south may further fan forest fires, Phivolcs said. It noted the front of the lava has advanced by about 300 meters while sulfur dioxide emission rate remains high at 6,568 tons per day. Residents in the villages of Mabinit, Miisi, Bonga, Matanag and Buyuan in Legazpi City in the Albay province were advised to prepare...
