Hundreds Feared Dead In Ethiopian Flooding

Several hundred people are feared dead after being swept away in flooding in Ethiopia.

At least 100 people died and many more are still missing after a river burst its banks about 500 kilometres east of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.

More than 200 homes were destroyed when water rushed through them, and many people were swept sleeping from their beds.

Bulldozers are still digging for bodies.

Thousands of residents in the city of Dire Dawa have been displaced by the flooding.

Vehicles and livestock have also been swept away.

The rainy season from June to September is a hazardous time in low lying parts of Ethiopia.

At least 200 people were killed during the wet season last year.
