ISLAMABAD: The death toll in a massive landslide that swept away several houses in northern Pakistan on Monday, has risen to 17, officials said yesterday.
“Rescue teams of local police in Kalam town recovered bodies of another two people, from the landslide site late Monday night, which surged the death toll to 17,” police official Sher Muhammad said.
He said local rescuers found five people alive while searching the rubble where they also recovered two more bodies.
Picturesque Kalam is one of Pakistan’s most-frequented summer resorts on Swat River, a tributary of the country’s longest river, the Indus.
