Picture: View from the Brutus camera at 09:14 a.m. PDT, about 6 minutes after this morning’s event. Vapor with light ash obscures most of the extruding lava spine. The light gray swath in the center of the photograph shows the path of the rock avalanche as it flowed downhill. The dark areas adjacent to the rock-avalanche path shows the ash cloud (finer material) that accompanied the avalanche. USGS Photograph taken on May 29, 2006 at 09:14 a.m. PDT (1614 UTC).
The Southwest Volcano Research Centre reports that Mt. St. Helens is showing some renewed activity. On Tuesday, the center reports the growth of a new lava dome is continuing. Also reported are “emissions of steam and volcanic gases, and minor production of ash”. The site reports...
