Miami -- The first tropical storm of the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season, Alberto, formed off Cuba yesterday and appeared headed toward Florida, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
The storm was about 605 kilometres west of Key West, Fla., in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday.

Alberto has dumped heavy rain on Cuba and was predicted to make landfall tomorrow, crossing the northern part of Florida and then entering the Atlantic. Reuters
